Sherri Craig

Hello, I am currently an adjunct instructor of English. I received my Masters degree in the Art of English in the Spring of 2003. I teach both online and face to face classes. I enjoy teaching research and persuasive writing skills. My areas of interest include pop culture studies, literary theory and criticism, theology, linguistics and translation theory, and creative writing. I live in Hammond with my husband, two children, and a pug. I plan to continue my education, while teaching on the college level. I also enjoy document design, web design, animation, movies, and graphic novels.

·Co-director / Secretary of the SLU Creative Writers Group from Spring 2001 to Spring 2003. Owner and Moderator of the groups email discussion list and site.

·Member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society

·Editor of The Pick from 2001-2003 and Outside the Lines 2003

·Organizer of writing panels at various area fan/writing conventions. Also designed convention program book. Serving as Program Director of 2004’s Coast Con Sci-Fi Literary Convention

·Freelance writer and columnist for Tyrannosaurus Press’ sci-fi and speculative fiction newsletter, The Illuminata.

·Interested in and have done significant work in the areas of translation and translation theory and the graphic novel as literature.

·Author of the monologue of Madame C.J. Walker, performed by Eureka Dalton in Louisiana Women in Performance- Race, Identity, Woman: A Living Louisiana Ghost Story 2003 and also served as assistant director of the performance

COMPUTER SKILLS

· I have experience with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. I can use AppleWorks, Microsoft Word, Works, Publisher, Excel, Access and Front Page (though I prefer Netscape Composer). I can also graphic design programs, such as Paintshop Pro, PhotoDeluxe, and Photoshop. Limited experience with other design programs, such as Adobe Go-live and Quark. .

· As a staff member of the Writing Center and serving one semester in the Micro Computer lab, it was my job to maintain computers. I provided monthly virus scans and extraneous file deletion. I also maintained and operated ink jet and laser jet printers, copiers, and scanners.

· I am proficient in most computer skills and can pick up new programs quickly. I have been using computers since 1984 and have been online since 1988 (when the Internet was text based).

· I am proficient in web design and maintenance. I maintain a personal website, a business website for Jerryco Technologies, the official Creative Writers Group University web page, an unofficial After Hours CWG site, and an instructor page at the university which contains information for my Upward Bound class. I also assisted with the SLU Writing Center website.

· I maintain email discussion and announcement lists and sites for the Creative Writers Group, the Writing Center Staff, and the English Club. I also provided faculty announcements for events related to those three groups.

· I have also used the university online Blackboard System for the past two years. I accept, grade and return papers via internet and digital drop box and keep all my resources online.


LANGUAGES

·Received a minor in Latin

·Interest in translation and translation theory. Can spot translate most Latinate languages.

·Have done minor work in the translation of Japanese Tanka poetry (from romanji).
