About the College of Business

Dr. Randy SettoonWelcome!

The College of Business at Southeastern Louisiana University has made tremendous strides toward becoming a top regional business school.  Our programs are accredited by the AACSB International, the most prestigious accrediting agency for business programs; our EMBA program is noted by Business Week as one of the top programs in the southern United States; and our international program has forged numerous programs and partnerships with many Latin American governments and educational institutions.  We've added new degree programs aimed at stimulating economic development in Louisiana by producing graduates who will work in the industries growing along the I-12 corridor.  Enrollment in the College has increased to nearly 2,800 majors.  The quality of students and graduates has increased as well.

The College's faculty are experts in their disciplines and many are recognized nationally and internationally through their work.  They publish in widely circulated journals, provide consulting expertise to businesses, and engage in other activities which enhance the classroom experience and expose students to best practices in business. The College offers a lecture series on Ethics and International Business, and invites business executives to classrooms to talk informally with students about business.  Our faculty are available in their offices or via Internet to students needing assistance with classes or mentoring advice.  We have a student-centered philosophy, regarding teaching and providing students with a high quality learning experience as our highest priority.

The College's large endowment provides funding for numerous student scholarships, professorships for faculty, study abroad stipends, internships -- both here and abroad (e.g., the Panama Canal) -- and funding for instructional support.  Students who stay on campus have the choice of living in the College of Business dorm, which is reserved for business students.  All business classes are taught in the R. Norval Garrett Business Building.  Students learn how to be effective communicators and to think critically. They participate in consulting and research projects with our faculty.  Finally, the College has many student organizations that are considered among the top student organizations in the country, receiving awards each year at national conferences.

Our international program is unmatched by any university in the deep South. Our business school was the first American university to be nominated by Latin American countries to receive the Distinguished Award for Educative Quality because of our numerous successful programs in countries such as Panama, Costa Rica, Columbia, and the Dominican Republic.

Finally, every classroom in the Garrett Business Building is equipped with the latest technology.  Our Finance Lab allows students access to real-time market data.  Data boards, a ticker-tape, and financial software provide for an excellent learning experience. We have three other computer labs available to students and are building a Supply Chain Management (SCM) lab for our new SCM degree program.

In sum, we are proud to offer high-quality degree programs and learning experiences for our students.  Come to Southeastern's College of Business and begin to build a successful career before you graduate!
